The Squamish Sound Podcast

2019-09-06 Squamish Chief The Squamish Sound PodcastWhen Jennifer Thuncher called to interview me for a story in The Squamish Chief, I was delighted as always to talk about Emily Carr. Jennifer’s story duly appeared in the paper (see separate post), and I was further delighted when she told me she wanted to use a clip from the interview in their weekly podcast, The Squamish Sound. It’s a poignant tale in the Emily Carr lexicon, which I like to think I would have told better had I known anyone else would hear the recording. But you’ll get the point.

If you listen to the whole broadcast on YouTube, you’ll find the clip beginning at 12:00 minutes.

Summer Workstation – Presentation Prep

2B9A6346-3Preparing the presentations for my BC Book Tour is pure pleasure in this beautiful late summer weather when I can move my workstation to the garden. Every time I look up I see a hummingbird at the canna lilies or a butterfly on the coneflowers or a bee on the sunflowers or a chicadee at the feeder. Crickets are singing beneath the lilacs and a warm breeze nudges the tomato vines into a swaying dance. Oh, right … back to work.

ECBC 3 Book Tour FBReally looking forward to getting back to my old stomping grounds in BC on this upcoming tour. I’ll be speaking at libraries and museums in locations covered in Book Three ~ Emily Carr’s BC: South Coast to the Interior. Kicking off in Victoria at Emily Carr House, I’ll head inland for several stops in the Okanagan, Shuswap, and as far east as Golden; then backtracking to Sechelt, Squamish and Pemberton before wrapping up at a Whistler Writers Festival event being hosted by the Audain Art Museum. How fantastic is that!

Here’s the schedule so far. (more…)

The final volume of my groundbreaking trilogy, Emily Carr’s B.C., presents the culmination of a journey far beyond anything I ever imagined when I set out to explore the landscapes, historical environment, and First Nations traditions that shaped an icon. Author and artist Emily Carr led a merry chase to some of the best-loved destinations and remotest outposts of the province, revealing her character and motivation every step of the way. Wherever this epic traveller (and her trusty canine companions) ventured, I was determined to follow. Book three traces the Vancouver years; forays to the Cariboo, Shuswap, Thompson, Sunshine Coast, Fraser Canyon and Okanagan Valley; concluding with what we know today as the Sea-to-Sky corridor, Carr’s last great expedition.
